Canadian Dental Care Plan

Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian government has begun a benefits program to make dental care more accessible to residents. Bite Family Dentistry is participating in the CDCP. Here's some more info:

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian residents who have filed a Canadian tax return in the previous year.
  • Have a net family income of under $90,000 in the previous tax year.
  • Do not have access to dental insurance (eg. through employer, school, or personal private plan, etc.)

When does it begin?

  • It's already begun!
  • Applications already open for some demographics, phased in by age group:

How much does it cover?

  • The CDCP will pay all or a portion of their pre-determined fee per service.
  • The CDCP’s pre-determined fees are slightly lower than the standard fees of Alberta and the Bow Valley.
  • We will directly bill the CDCP for their portion of the fees, but there will be a co-pay you will need to pay directly to the dental office.
  • Not every procedure is covered and some procedures will need preauthorizations, but most basic services will be included.
  • The amount of the co-pay depends on net family income.

What if you are not eligible yet?

  • Employment-based or individual insurance plans may also be available.
  • Bite Family Dentistry will continue to see all patients regardless of their insurance.
  • Regular dental care is important. Waiting for your demographic to be eligible may cause minor, easily treatable issues to turn into major and/or non-treatable problems. We understand that dental care may be financially difficult when there is no help from insurance, so we welcome honest and open conversation with our patients to come up with treatment plans that address your needs and fit your budget.
